Artificial intelligence is already reshaping the cyber threat landscape. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) assesses that while AI is unlikely to fundamentally change the goals of cyber threat actors, it will increase the speed, scale and efficiency of attacks.

AI is increasingly supporting activities such as social engineering, vulnerability discovery and exploit development. The NCSC also warns that organisations with weaker security or legacy technology could struggle to keep pace, while the use of unauthorised“shadow AI” could create additional security risks.

Organisations should continue to strengthen their cyber resilience, maintain effective AI governance and ensure vulnerabilities are patched promptly as the threat landscape evolves.
